About

Ellen is a space domain investor and enthusiast.  She has worked with over twenty space-domain startups and actively advises while also conducting research about the space sector.

Apart from this role, she is a principal with BMNT.  In this position, she leads efforts in innovation within designated government agencies and energetically grows the H4X (Hacking for X) ecosystem that supports organizations looking to solve deep, hard challenges.  The harder the better.

Ellen is also co-founder and board of director member of LightSpeed Innovations (LSI), an aerospace-focused accelerator dedicated to investing in and fostering startups in the aerospace sector. In this capacity, she supports strategy development and research in investment and exit trends.

Ellen started her career as an officer in the U.S. Navy where she served as an intelligence officer.  She later joined JP Morgan where she focused on exploring and facilitating investing in start-ups.  Amidst the dot-com era, Ellen founded a start-up in the aviation industry where the team focused on building a B2B aviation part sourcing and brokerage focused on business jets.  On the heels of the dot-com-bust, Ellen was recalled into the Navy to support Desert Storm II.  Following this recall, she jointed Northrop Grumman.  During her 12 years at Northrop Grumman, she held positions as a systems engineer and program manager.  Her work included design and development of autonomous systems ranging from the Global Hawk to the Unmanned Carrier-based unmanned aerial system.

Ellen holds a BA in history from the University of Pennsylvania, an MS in systems engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School, and an MBA in Finance from The Wharton School. Ellen loves to run, taste wine, and travel.  She is the chair of the Wharton Angel Network Southern California.  She is also cofounder of Wharton Aerospace and runs the innovation-ventures focused Wharton Aerospace Ventures conference at Wharton San Francisco.
