Sean Dougherty has worked in the aerospace and robotics fields for over 20 years and is currently the Chief Technologist for Maxar Technologies’ robotics group as well as the Principal Investigator for SAMPLR, a robotic arm that will be used on the Moon as part of NASA’s Artemis program.  Sean has filled various rolls at Maxar from designer to principal engineer. His early work at the company involved design of a commercial lunar rover mission as well as development and testing of the manipulators for NASA’s Mars Exploration Rovers. He continues to focus on planetary robotics as well as new efforts to robotically service, repair and assemble satellites in space.  Prior to his tenure at Maxar, Sean worked at NASA’s Johnson Space Center as an EVA flight controller and astronaut crew instructor for space station robotics. His graduate work at Stanford, under Professor Robert Twiggs, focused on smallsat and cubesat development.
